Visit us These units were created so as to function as "shops" for the public with work positions for individuals with mental disabilities. The first one was "Kivotos" tavern which is located within the PHT. The other units belong to the city structure and… to its inhabitants.
It was "launched" three years ago and it continues along its route. The multi-center "Apogeio" is located in the center of the city of Thessaloniki and hosts a series of activities which help the Psychiatric Hospital make its presence known socially and culturally. These are a coffee-bar, an art exhibition center, the products exhibition center and the Social Club. Ôhe coffee bar operates throughout the day as well as the Social Club which, however, is open to members only. The exhibition center functions as a display center and as a central point of sales for the products of the PHT's sheltered workshops. The art exhibition center has been carrying out exhibitions from the art world for two years non-stop while it participates in the city's big events. "Apogeio" also organises and participates in events for the general public (Book Festival, World Environment Day etc.).
The name derives from "Linos", the wine produced in the wine-making unit of the PHT. The tavern has been open for two years in the Stavroupolis area, near Moni Lazariston and its style is that of a family tavern providing all the tastes of the Greek cuisine, live music (Friday and Saturday) and mostly a lot of fun!
"The mental homes open from…the inside" was the kind of thinking that led, together with the staff's motivation, to the conversion of a building that was one of the oldest and most loaded with asylum memories to a tavern. The "Kivotos" tavern with its characteristic name (it means Ark) has been operating since 1990 on the premises of the PHT and it conforms to the Greek model of fun. Furthermore, "Kivotos" has developed catering services which can cover conferences, conventions or other types of events.
